Times are financially hard going for many people at the moment. It's easier to save money than it is to earn extra money. So I have put together a few tips to help you save money.
1. Eat what you buy! Strange you might say, well not really it's a well-known fact that of all the food we buy around one third is thrown away by us. When you think of it it's true! How often do you end up throwing fruit that is past its best away or leftovers that were kept in the fridge too long?
Think of it like this if you had $10 in your hand would you throw three of them in the trash? No of course you wouldn't but that is exactly what the majority of us are in effect doing. So just buy exactly what you need you can always get more. It's better to be near running out than throwing stuff away and wasting money!
2. My next trip is to go carefully through all the payments that go out automatically from your credit cards or bank account. It's common to find that there will be one of two items that go out every month that you don't really need. We are often too lazy to cancel them or haven't realized that these items are still being paid. For every $10 a month that is $120 a year! It's better in your pocket so if you don't need it stop the payment.
3. An easy way to save a couple of hundred dollars a year is shop around when home or car insurances are due for renewal. Don't blindly accept what the renewal notice says! Take the time to do a little Internet research on the comparison sites you might be surprised just how much money you can save.
4. Another expense that goes up and up are electricity and gas bills. This is another area where a considerable amount of your money can be saved every year. Again use the help of comparison sites to see exactly how much you can save. It's likely that by going with the same supplier if you have both gas and electricity that you will save at least $100-$200 a year.
5. My final suggestion is to stop using the car as much as you currently do. For instance walk the children to school if it's feasible. Something that we do is share the trip to school with another family. One week I take the children the next week the other family does and vice versa. This means only one car does the trip each day. I estimate that we save around $100 a year doing this.
These are only a few ideas, each saving over $100 a year, but added together they make a significant amount of money that's back in your pocket and not those of others.
